Meadowland Park Dance Festival, September 13
September 13
2:30 PM
Bring a lawn chair and a snack and join us for Meadowland Park’s newest offering: The Meadowland Park Dance Festival!
The MPDF gives our local dancers a chance to perform original works and allows us to support their development as artists. By offering this performance opportunity for free, we give park visitors a unique, homegrown cultural experience without the lofty and prohibitive ticket price.
This year’s program will cap at an hour in length.
September 13th, 2:30 pm
Location: Meadowland Park Skate House green across from 5 Mead Street, South Orange

Lydia Johnson Dance (Guest Artists) will show excerpts from Ms. Johnson’s recent piece, Evening, with music by Johann Paul Von Westhoff and Nico Muhly. Principal LJD dancers Laura Di Orio, Oscar Antonio Rodriguez, Cara Mc Manus and Michael Miles will perform. Ms. Johnson’s choreography has been acclaimed in The New Yorker, The New York Times and Critical Dance, among others. Marina Harss in The New Yorker commented: “Johnson is a craftsman and a poet,” and Jerry Hochman in Critical Dance called her work an example of “simple truth and transcendent beauty.” The Company presents an annual New York Season and will perform at New York Live Arts in June 2026. The Lydia Johnson Dance School holds local classes in both Maplewood and South Orange.
